How hard would it be to change front/back rotors on 2002 explorer?

I had a car that had them pressured on and needed to have a certain machine to get them off. My current car's rotors just slide off with a little help from a hammer. Do the explorers rotors just slide off too?How hard would it be to change front/back rotors on 2002 explorer?
Front rotors have the integral bearing race and removing the spindle nut is necessary.

Rears are tircky becuase you cannot use your Ebrake when working to remove the rears.....EBrake is located at the circumference of the hub assembly....the so rotor is a disc and a drum.....

Tap the rotor while turning and pulling, it should come off....take this time to check the Ebrake drum surface....if it needs turning, get both the disc surface and the drum surface done at the same time.

You should have rotors turned anytime you installed new pads anyway. It helps them last longer and gives you better braking. How hard would it be to change front/back rotors on 2002 explorer?
I know the front have bearings so youll have to unscrew the nut thats under the tin cap. then it just slides off. the rear is probably the same. If its a 4wd then theirs more to it.How hard would it be to change front/back rotors on 2002 explorer?
in most cars you are supposed to be able to replace them with little difficulty.

the only ones that i can think off that would be hard to do would be inboard brakes like on H1 humvees and old jagsHow hard would it be to change front/back rotors on 2002 explorer?
callipers are more difficult to change than rotors on your ford should take some tapping with a hammer

If you'd like a quick primer, go to your public library and dive into a Chilton or Motors Manual that concerns your specific car. If you get lucky any auto-parts store will have Haynes, or Chilton manuals specific to a number of years of all Nissan Cars. I do not think the manual will be specific to an Extera.

As for tools, a few shallow well half inch drive metric sockets, 12 mm. - 17mm. , a 1/2 drive ratchet wrench, and a large C- clamp or a Jorgensen - carpenters slider C clamp, jack stands, a hydraulic floor jack (safer than a bottle jack) is all you need.

    1. Slightly loosen all the wheels.

    2. get the vehicle up on jack stands

    3. Remove front wheels.

    4. Remove brake caliper. 2 cap-screws are on the back side of the caliper bracket.

    5. Two cap screws need to be removed to release the caliper bracket from the wheel spindle.

    6. Rotors may need a tap on the back side to break them loose because of rust and corrosion.

    7. Using an old brake pad in front of the piston inside the caliper, position your clamping device behind the brake caliper and screw the clamp which forces the caliper piston back inside the bore.

    8. When replacing the rotors, paint on a small amount of Permatex Never Seize on the entire surface of the rotor where the lug holes meet the hub. The rotors will never stick again. If you plan on keeping your vehicle more than 3 yrs. Do not buy cheap off - shore brake rotors. They are often machined to minimum thickness, the cast iron is of poor quality, they rust and corrode quickly and they warp easily. Go for AC Delco, Wagner or EBC brake rotors. autopartswarehouse. com has Beck Arnley ceramic brake pads which include brake shims. Be careful what you choose for brake pads as most do not include the anti-rattle shims which add to the cost of your job.

9.If your selection of ceramic pads does not include the shims there's another way to stop brake squeel. Buy a plastic bottle of CRC Brake Quiet at NAPA, Car quest, or Auto Zone. On the steel side of the front pads first, spread a .090 thickness of this high temp silicone covering 100% of the steel side. Let it dry for 20 minutes.

Slide the rotors back on and bolt up the caliper bracket.

Re-assemble the pads inside the caliper or sit them inside the caliper bracket and bolt the caliper in place.

It is easy. I would recommend getting the manual from the auto parts store.

How much can I sell my car for that does not start?

I have a 1996 Honda Civic Dx Hatchba ck Midori Green! Its a rare car, honda only made it that color, for that model and that year. Everywhere I go people are always admiring the car and color and asking to buy. I wanted to sell it to get something newer and larger, but then it stopped working. The alternator went and ever since I got it changed the car would not start. I just want it off my hands. The body is in good condition, NO RUST watsoever, lovely car, 156K, comes with 5 rims, circuit city radio, just changed rotors, brakes, alternator and had the front axle done. How much do you think I can get for this car? I'm asking 2,000 for it, is that not a possibility? The blue book value is 3,080. I'm sure theres people who would fix this car up and race it (those hatchback honda lovers) or simply strip for parts for the same car (since its hard to find in that color).

Block the car up .Never work under an un blocked car. (NOT JUST ON A JACK.)

Remove the wheels. Remove two bolts holding calipers on. slide calipers off. Remove locking device that holds rotors on. remove rotors. To install reverse the process. Hope this helps. Have fun and do be safe.

You shouldn't need to change the rotors on a car that new. You should just be able to replace the brake pads. I'm obviously not familiar with your situation. But, if you don't have damage to the rotors or severely excessive wear, you should leave them as they are. Rotors can also be turned before they need to be replaced. The best thing to do is buy a repair manual for your vehicle. Most auto parts places stock books by Chilton or Hayes and those books have instructions and diagrams for every part of your car. These books are very helpful for everything from routine maintenance to complete overhauls, and only cost16-20 bucks. They have helped me save tons of money, by allowing me to do myself what a mechanic would charge $60+ an hour to do. Good luck. How to change brake rotors...?

I just got a car, what should i change besides the oil?

    nissan altima year 2000

the owner didnt tell me what he did.

i changed the oil, put in new coolant, installed new tires, changed the rotors, and front brakes. then i added some fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank

the car has like 183,000 km on it

    anything else i should change?

i havent checked the rear brakes because i dont know how to put on rear brakesI just got a car, what should i change besides the oil?
Timing belt even if it %26quot;looks%26quot; to be in great shape. Change it. Check out the car jack by actually lifting the car and use the wheel wrench to take off the nuts. Sometimes they lose these things and just toss in any old jack which does not necessarily fit or work(which does not help you when you actually need it to fix a flat tire) on the side of the road in the rain one night out in the middle of nowhere and you are half drunk and the girl is wanting it in the cab but you are no longer in the mood because %26quot;things are not going your way outside%26quot;.

All the filters. Check your vacuum lines and V belts and rad hoses. and your smelly pine tree air fumigator on the rearview mirror.

Oh, and check to see that the spare tire is actually one that fits onto the car. Nothing like finding you have a 4 bolt hole pattern to fit a Ford and you have a 4 bolt Chev.

Rear brakes are getting to the time they need to be inspected and possibly replaced as they would possibly be pretty thin by now. Do it before metal to metal contact which would ruin the drums. Grab a repair manual from the library to find out how to do them. It is not that hard.

Also have the battery condition inspected(a load test) and the charging system checked.

You might want to eye-ball the exhaust system especially around the muffler where most of the rust occurs to see if it is rusted through.

Also, eyeball the shocks to see if oil is leaking from them. Also you should have looked at the old tires and see how evenly they were wearing. If worn out on the insides or the outsides indicates a wheel alignment is needed as the car does not travel straight down the road. Wearing out in the centre means he had too much air in the tires.

Oh yeah. Do the windshield wipers work(and the washer)? Headlights, high beam %26amp; low beam, brake lights, backup lights, signal lights, horn?

A radio would be nice too.I just got a car, what should i change besides the oil?
There is no set instructions on what you should do,but I would change spark plugs, wires, dist. cap(if have one),oil filter, air filter, flush radiator, check and change belts if you notice cracking in them, and maybe timing belt if the mileage is high. This will take care of most stuff that may cause problems. This also makes all items done when you know they were done.I just got a car, what should i change besides the oil?
check the back brakes. if you don,t know how to put them on then just pull both wheel. if you get in a bind then you can look at the other wheel. check to see if it has grease fittings on the ball joints and tie rods. you might want to grease them. change the air filter, pcv valve, check the belts and all the hoses including the vacuum hoses.I just got a car, what should i change besides the oil?
Sounds like you are on the right track.

Your engine uses a timing chain instead of a belt but verify this with a Nissan parts dept.

Read the owner's manual font to back and make note of maintenance intervals.

Check the condition and tension of the drive belts.

Air filter? Perhaps check one or two spark plugs? If the look a bit worn it's inexpensive to change them.I just got a car, what should i change besides the oil?

How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?

My friend jacked up my car, took off the front passenger wheel to change my rotors. The car slipped off the jack and landed on the rotor. Is there additional damage/stress to any other part to my car? The rotor got damaged but they were already being thrown out anyway. I'm going to get it checked out by the Honda dealer but I want to know what to expect. I drive a 2007 Honda Accord, 4 cylinder. How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?
More than likely it did not hurt anything, if it did it should be nothing major. How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?
I doubt there would be any other damage , but get it checked out if you`re at all concerned ...............How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?
you may have tweaked some suspension stuff but that is all i can foresee. ball joints, tie rods, etc. but i highly doubt it. but new cars have a lot of electrical stuff going to brakes and suspension. abs sensor being one. the car is a 07 and needs brakes. there is a major issue there. brakes should last longer than that.

but the better question is why in the hell were you working on a car on only a jack. they make these things i am not sure if you have heard of them called jack stands. be thankful you were not under it when it fell. How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?
Your friend is a moron. That's why they make jack stands. Never support a car on just a jack. Your friend is lucky it didn't land on him and cause a fatal injury.

Now to answer your question: The hub bearing, control arm, spindle, CV axel, ball joint, tie rods, and strut all could have been damaged. This is worst case scenario. If you are lucky, only the that old rotor got damaged. How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?
Unless the jack whacked the side of the car or something similar happened - landing on the rotor at worst might have bent the dust shield or the air deflector under the front bumper. How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?
There isn't any damage done to the rest of the car. Don't bother wasting your time or money at the dealership. Your car has struts to absorb impact and that's what ensured any other parts of your car from being damaged. How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?
brake rotor tie rod ends steering brackets part of the suspension and lol off the jack y did he put the tire underneath the car in case something stupid like that happens lolol sorry not being professional

hmmm i would say if ur lucky just the rotor if not maybe some steering compents or and tie rod ends or suspension(spring/ strut) depends where it landedHow damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?
as long as nothing is leaking or when u drive on it it dont wobble or anything like that you should be good to go. hope that helpsHow damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?
It is a more common accident than you might think! I have never heard of more than damaged rotor and bent back plate as a result, even when the wheel came off on the road. I doubt it does the bearings any good, but they don't seem to mind.

Is it ok to change just one brake rotor?

About a year ago getting my tires changed the mechanic mentioned I need new pads. Sure enough they started to grind soon after. I changed all four front pads. Now less then a year later the grinding is back (was always just on the driver's side). I drive easy, no hard braking or drifting around corners. Is it ok to just change the one rotor? How about the pads? The sales guy also was trying to sell a bunch of extras like cleaner to get the oil off the rotor, replacement grease for the caliper bolts and something else because of the time of year (salt). The rotor box says %26quot;ready to install%26quot;, so do I also really need all that other stuff?

In case it matters: 2002 Saturn SL2 front wheel drive %26lt;100K milesIs it ok to change just one brake rotor?
Its fine to do if your broke and only one is giving u the problem but chances are the other isn't far behind. I think your problem is either worn calliper or wheel baring because the problem is only on the 1 side. As for what the sales guy was trying to sell you pretty well bull other than its a good idea to keep the rotor as clean as possible and to keep your calliper bolts or any bolt u might have to take off again with anti seize.

Hope u find this helpfulIs it ok to change just one brake rotor?
That %26quot;sales guy%26quot; does NOT sound good to me! Run (don't walk) to the door and say goodbye forever. Make sure to try another independent repair shop you might find by searching the below link. That new garage will remove both your rotors (easy to do) and simply turn them done on a lathe and charge you about $30 plus the cost of the new pads for a total cost of $125. Do the complete front brake job the right way, and you'll pay less and be safer driving in the long run.

Even though it says ready to install, they do ship them with a light oil, and I always spray new rotors down with brake cleaner. As far as replacing one rotor, I would rather not. In hard braking it could cause the car to swerve slightly. Is it ok to change just one brake rotor?

3 i can't believe the ****** is trying to nickle and dime you...charge for a smear of grease? and a spray of cleaner PLEASE punch him for me!Is it ok to change just one brake rotor?
if it did it the 2nd time then it,s probably the caliper sticking. you can change just 1 side unless the other rotor is thin then you need to change both rotors to get good braking action. also when you buy rotors the factory puts grease or oil on them to keep them from rusting so before installing them wash them down with brake cleaner. Is it ok to change just one brake rotor?
clean all oil off the rotors and grease the bolts to make sure the calipers slide back in forth freely if they dont you will eat brake pad up.Is it ok to change just one brake rotor?
i would rather change %26quot;both%26quot; rotors at the same time. and if you plan to replace the brake pads, change both too.

the grinding sound that you feel is probably the cause of a warped rotor... this happens when the rotor gets hot when driving then a splash of water hits the rotor or going straight to the car wash after a long drive.

you don't have to buy those brake cleaners or grease.

the rotors are not that expensive anyway and even the brake pads. the expensive one is the %26quot;brake caliper%26quot;... but i don't think that you have a problem with this part.Is it ok to change just one brake rotor?
If you're wearing out one side prematurely, there's a reason. You may have a stuck caliper. The caliper must be free to slide side-to-side on the guide pins as the pads wear. If it's sticking, then you'll likely wear out one pad on that side before the others. If the rotor on the other side still has plenty of metal thickness left, then you could just replace one side. BUT you should have the old rotor ground or machined to remove any 'glaze'- that's when the surface gets polished from wear and heat. If you don't remove the glaze the new rotor will grab better than the old one and cause it to pull to one side. You MUST replace ALL the pads at the same time.

You need to clean and lubricate the guide pins (high-quality bearing grease works fine) and the holes where they slide. There's a small rubber seal that keeps out dirt. If the rubber is broken, dirt and water can get in and cause the caliper to stick. Also, you need to use shims behind the pads and pad silencer goop on the shims. Otherwise you'll end up with brakes that squeal.

Between 400-600 dollars, what you ahd done isn't involved in a tune up... Major tune up will be $1100How much would a tune up cost me?
    Tune Up:

    - Replace Spark Plugs (Use regular plugs, platinum plugs, iridium plugs?) Check on autozone or kragen site for pricing.

    - Replace distributor cap and rotor (Use factory parts or aftermarket parts?) Check on honda ,autozone or kragen website for pricing.

    - Replace oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, pcv valve (extra). Also ask if they use factory parts or aftermarket. (Check websites for pricing)

    - Check all belts, hoses, ignition wire. (Should be included or free)

    - Check suspension, tires. (Should be included or free). Use common sense, some shop will persuade you to replace parts.

Don't feel pushed to do a service. If you do, drive away and find a different service shop.

Good Luck. How much would a tune up cost me?
A good vehicle inspection should include a few easy diagnostics as part of the inspection. Cleaning and tightening the battery cables if necessary, testing the battery, charging system, and starter draw, testing coolant strength, inspecting drive belt conditions, lights, block heater, wiper blades, and filling the washer bottle with winter solution are all part of a complete inspection.

Now that the basics are done, we need to add a couple more items. Have the air filter checked, varnish deposits cleaned from the throttle plates, and vacuum and coolant hoses inspected for cracks or chafing. Removing one sparkplug to check condition will give a good indication if they need to be changed. Even one misfiring sparkplug will decrease fuel economy dramatically. Of course, extra labour charges apply if new ones are required.

Using a scan tool to check for engine codes can tell a lot. On OBD II emissions vehicles (1996 and newer vehicles), it can help locate a misfire. The scan tool can also monitor oxygen sensor readings for quick response rates. Oxygen sensors degrade with mileage and there are many high mileage vehicles that could get better fuel economy with a new sensor. A quick look under the vehicle for poor exhaust system parts, oil leaks, and to check tire condition and pressure and the inspection is done.

A vehicle inspection pinpoints what items on your vehicle need service. Instead of spending money on a 'Tune Up', spend it on what the vehicle really needs. Here are a few more items that should be considered as part of routine maintenance.

Many engines use rubber timing belts that need changing at specified intervals. Forget to have it changed and you could be looking at bent engine valves and major repair costs.

Keeping a vehicle maintained is expensive enough without spending money on services not needed. After watching how vehicles and the automotive industry have changed over the years, I am convinced an annual vehicle inspection is the best guide to help owners save money on maintenance.

TRY FINDING AN INDEPENDENT SHOP INSTEAD OF THE DEALER OR A CHAIN STORE BECAUSE YOU WILL BE OVERALL MORE PLEASED WITH THE FINDINGS AND THE SERVICE.

How to change front rotors on 1995 honda acord?

Take the tire off. There are either two or four bolts holding the caliper on the rotor. Unbolt the caliper and swing up and out of the way. Be careful not to pinch the brake line. There is a small cap in the center of the hub. Remove the cap and you will see a large nut with a cotter key in the middle. Straighten out the key and use pliers to remove. After the key is removed then remove the large nut. That will allow you to remove the rotor. When you put the new rotor on don't forget to put the outside wheel bearing and the flat washer back on before replacing the nut and cotter key. Takes a little time but is not that hard to do. Good luck...

Midas said around $750, my mechanic expects around $700, a friend at work said he could do it for $400... Not sure what to do...How much should it cost on a 2002 Toyota Camry LE (4c/2.4L) to get both sets of brakes %26amp; front rotors changed?
rots are 50 bucks a peace so that's 100 for both front plus about 50 for brake pads then that's about two hours of labor say 2 hours at 100 that's 200+150=350

Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?

Cars are a constant money pit. You're either making payments or paying for repairs. You're 9 years from your car's production date, and if this is the first time you've replaced rotors, you're doing well.

If you don't have the money for rotors, ask if they're warped, or only scored. If they're only scored, you can either have them surfaced, or just slam in some brake pads knowing they'll wear prematurely (you'll get about half the life out of them). When I was a young man, I ran rotors regardless of how scored they were, I had better things to do with my non-union factory worker paycheck.

Having them resurfaced is best, but some rotors are only surface hardened, and the specs are so limited, they almost never can be resurfaced.

If you're going to do it yourself, find out before you take it apart if any special tools are required, or if there's anything peculiar about your particular car that you should know.

I don't currently own a car with disc brakes, and back when I did they were pretty straightforward, but my son in law just spend a small fortune on new calipers because he tried to push the pistons back in the usual way with a C-clamp, but there was a high-tech limiter because of the anti-lock brakes and unless the piston was turned before it was pushed, it damaged the mechanism. So be careful.

As far as changing the brake fluid, it depends on how long you intend to keep the car. Years ago I thought I was the only guy in the world who actually changed brake fluid every presidential election (once every 4 years). Brake fluid absorbs water out of the atmosphere, and over time, the wheel cylinders or calipers will begin to corrode from the inside out. Wheel cylinders leak before they seize, but calipers seize before they leak, which is probably why your mechanic advised you to change it out.Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?
wow, the rotors for that car are about 60-80 per, for that car, the rest is labor fee.Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?
That's sounds about twice the price I think.Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?
What was the original problem with your car that caused you to take it to a shop?

Try taking it to a Mercury dealer and see what they think needs fixing, and what they charge, and compare.

I don't trust those tire and brake shops. They tend to be dishonest.

Dealers with factory certification are more trustworthy. Try the Mercury web site to locate a dealer.Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?
you can buy the rotors for about 60 to 80 bucks pay 5 to 10 to have them re-surface and install your self if you know how .. as far as brake fluid flush that's just a waste .. i've own vehi for about 15 years never did a flush and never had a problem ..Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?
Yes,you can do it your self.Get another opinion from another mechanic before you spend any money.Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?
I agree to not let them to the work that is way too much for a simple brake job. I would find or ask someone you know that is a mechanic and have them help you do the brake job. as for the flush I would only change it if the fluid is dark brown or black. If you do need a flush it only takes about 15-20 minutes to flush the whole system.Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?
Your local parts store can hook you up with the correct parts. You will need to know if you car has anti-lock brakes, and what engine and trans it has. They can also sell you a repair manual for your specific car, which will help you to fix it yourself. You might also ask some friends or co-workers, if they know how to do it. You might get it done real cheap if a friend can do it. I would not waste money on the flush, unless there is metal shavings visible in the master cylinder.

My car shakes when I brake. Should I change my rotors?

When I break after driving 50+ MPH, my car shakes. This does not really bother me, but I wonder if it could lead to something more serious. Can it? And what would I have to change and how much would it cost? Thanks!!!My car shakes when I brake. Should I change my rotors?
I had the same problem and I had mine shaved down just to give myself a little time before they needed to be changed and after that it was about 4 years before I had them replaced. You don't want to mess with brakes and they will only warp more as time goes by but you can always ask the opinion of a trusted mechanic as to whether you have some more ware left on them. Once you do change the rotors, you will most likely need to change the pads too.

Good Luck!!My car shakes when I brake. Should I change my rotors?
you can have them machined down to take the warping out of them and that's cheaper than buying new ones on it ,it helps to tell us the kind of car your working on sometimes this way you can get a lot better answer, if you have them turned they will replace the pads and turn the rotors for about 75-100 bucks, good luck on it.My car shakes when I brake. Should I change my rotors?
No shop out there will change the pads and machine rotors for 75-100 dollars. If they do, they use inferior pads like autozone or raybestos. I'd spend the additional 50 dollars and get some Centric Ceramics. For 140-150 dollars you can get high quality pads and rotors resurfaced. My car shakes when I brake. Should I change my rotors?
it really depends on how the rotors look, and how much life you have left in your pads. if you are going to need to get new pads in 5-10k miles then you should just wait. you might be able to just turn the rotors which would save you some money. you can go with a/m rotors but i would stick with a pad that is made by the manufacturer rather than a a/m pad. the a/m pads always make noise. My car shakes when I brake. How often should you change your spark plugs?

I have a '98 Mazda Protege LX 1.5L 4 cylinder with just over 111,000 miles. I was wondering how often you need to change the spark plugs. Also, I heard people say they changed the wires, rotor and cap. Do you need to do that too?How often should you change your spark plugs?
The normal rule of thumb is to change the plugs and wires every 100,000 miles. As far as the rotor...if your car has that because most vehicles nowadays are all electronic...I wouldn't replace that until you start having issues with it.How often should you change your spark plugs?
Forget about replacing wires, The factory wires should last for the lifetime of the car, unless they have been eaten by squirrels. Power wash your engine for starters. Remove your dist cap and check it INSIDE for the presence of engine oil. Many times, oil under pressure will find it's way here. Wash it out with CRC electronic cleaner. It will remove the oil and evaporate quickly. Replace the cap and rotor at 100,000 miles, using ONLY genuine Mazda (nippondenso) parts. There is a resistor in many dist rotors that go bad with age. Locate, remove and clean your IAC valve (idle air control valve). Use Gum-out spray. Clean the throttle body and plate and PCV valve, too. Run the Gum-out through the engine with car running, warm. Any carbon inside the intake manifold will dislodge and get dispelled. When everything is factory clean, replace the plugs. Use the new Nippondenso Twin Tip plugs ($3 each). Or nippondenso Iridium plugs ($9 each). Engine and sensors should ALL be clean. Plugs are last step. These plugs will give you best power and fuel mileage. Wait and see!!!! If you MUST change the wires, use ONLY factory wires. Never short change the original parts. They were made to last longest and work the best. The plugs I have mentioned will react with modern fuel and burn more cleanly and produce more power. Emissions go down, too. For even better performance, motor flush the engine and use ELF oil (France) made for Mazda (JASO ratings). Change it once yearly. Your engine will LOVE you for it!!!! So will your lifters, rings, and other engine vitals. Good luck!!How often should you change your spark plugs?
Read your owners manual. Your car probably needs plugs at 60,000 miles or so, if your car runs on an ignition cap and wires, then yes, replace plugs, INSPECT wires for damage, check your points in the cap for wear (if dull, replace, if they have a sharp edge still, probably ok). If you car has electronic ignition, the plugs probably could go longer. My fathers ford F-250 has electronic ignition, so the plugs need replaced at 100,000 miles... factory stated. How often should you change your spark plugs?
you should change it like every 3 1/2 year

How do I switch out the distributor rotor on an 86 toyota corolla?

I am trying to change my distributor rotor on my car. In my repair manual it says I should be able to pull it off but I can't. I have also tried twisting and pulling which one repair website suggested to do and it does not seem to be coming off. Are there any tricks that make it easy or should I just leave it to a mechanic? How do I switch out the distributor rotor on an 86 toyota corolla?
On that toyota there should be no screw. Just a straight up pull. it`s good you stated not to pry it, not good. but you can to try to grab the end tabs (one has the electrode other just a wing) and rock it while pulling up. no luck? try a pliers or channel lock pliers and still pull straight up while rocking if needed. When/if it comes off there will be a round shaft exposed with one side flat spotted, this is so you can not put it back on in the wrong position. Good luck Girl! How do I switch out the distributor rotor on an 86 toyota corolla?
there may be a screw in the side of the rotor, if there is unscrew it, if not spray some penetrant such as wd-40 or pb blaster between the rotor and the shaft and then use pliers and pull harder, if you have too, rock it back and forth and crack the plastic on the base of the rotor and slide it off being careful not to damage the distributor itself. make sure you put the new one on pointing the right directionHow do I switch out the distributor rotor on an 86 toyota corolla?
Ya, dont use anything to pry it off as it should slide right off. If it doesn't pull off, it may have a screw on the base of the rotor that keeps it on there. I never had to pull them off, they last a while on my 87 and 86 Corolla. I just take fine sandpaper and polish the tip and the tab.How do I switch out the distributor rotor on an 86 toyota corolla?
Use a vise grip and set it so that it just cracks the rotor where it goes over the shaft. Then pull straight of. Good advise not to try and pry it of as you run the chance of breaking the side of the distributor. How do I switch out the distributor rotor on an 86 toyota corolla?
it is probably just got some gunk gluing it on. you want to replace it Right? take a big pry bar and bust it off. you have a new rotor so break off the old one.

Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???

I have a 2000 firebird (v6) warped rear disc brakes. Also, how important is it to bleed the brakes. On my 90's camaro I never bled them and never had a problem. Please help me out.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???
no the rotors should come right off. if you don't open up the hydraulic part of the brake system you shouldn't have to bleed them.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???
Damn!! I should know this answer, I learned it in class today. My guess is since your replacing the pads and rotors you might as well replace the bearings, I think you have to replace the bearings every 30,000 miles.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???
normally, I clean them and inspect them .any, I say any ,mark I replace them ,otherwise they are good. re grease them(repack) and install them.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???
no, no bearing removal is required, but check for lateral movement, and as far a brakes go no bleeding is not required unless you breach the system,Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???
once you get the brake calipers off the rotors will come right off, you won't have to remove any bearings. The brake fluid should by all rights be flushed out every couple of years as moisture gets into the brake system and can cause havock with the ABS system.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???
basically speaking.. u should not have to replace the bearing on a rear disc brake assembly, it depends on if u have a top hat design or integral design.. if u have top hat then u just pull off the rotor and replace the rotor and put on the caliper and wheel and such.. also.. bleeding your brakes is very important because your brakes absorb water because they are hygroscopic.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???
no...you will not need to change wheel bearings....although if you are going to have the rotors off anyway, you may want to. your brakes should not have to be bled after replacing rotors and pads.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???
You will have to remove the bearing to get the rotor off.Pack the bearing with grease before you put them back. You shouldnt have to bleed the brakes.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???
on gm the bearing is seperate from the disc.just change the pads and rotors, like you would do on the front.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???
No. you don't need to replace them. The bearing almost never goes bad and usually last the lifetime of your car. Replace it if you hear noise from it, like it is not lubricated. Bled the brake only if you remove the tube that goes to the wheel and you lost some oil (on the floor). Usually, to replace a brake, do not unscrew the oil pipe. Before you remove the rotor, insert a crew driver between the pads and push the piston inside the caliper. The pads came loose and with enough space to insert a new ones.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???
A fire bird is rear wheel drive, so you would have to take apart the rearend and remove the axels to replace the bearings. So, you just need to leave that alone. The brakes are pretty straight forward. Pull off the rotors and slide new ones on. rear calipers usually need to be turned in, not pushed in like front calipers. look at your piston face ( the part that pushes on the pad) You should see 2 to 4 indents on the outer edge. these are engaged by a special tool used to turn them in. I've used channel locks as a last resort. Be careful not to rip the boots. You can probably rent a rear piston pusher at autozone. If you dont open the brake line you will not need to bleed them, but it is a good idea to bleed out the old fluid once in awhile to keep it fresh because it does absorb moisture from the air.

  • Need Some car help (Brakes, rotor and serpentine belt) Please help?

Ok so i just got a 1998 Ford Escort from my grandma who passed away couple weeks back. So just to be safe i got it checked at Midas. They told me i had 2 get all my brakes pads, my front rotor and my serpentine belt changed. Im not really good with cars so please explain this to me. when they said get ur front rotor changed, what does that mean...both front tires...how many rotors does a car have..... And also does anyone know where i can get all these parts cheap. PLUS I DONT WAN TO SELL THIS CAR SO DONT SUGGEST THAT TO ME. thanksNeed Some car help (Brakes, rotor and serpentine belt) Please help?
You'll get a lot of opinions on cars, and mine from years of experience is not to go to the national chain store franchises like Midas, Goodyear, Firestone, and some others in large metropolitan areas. It's much better in my opinion to get to know some local independent shops you can find below that are recommended by your neighbors. The %26quot;gaurantees%26quot; you get at those chain stores and quickie lubes don't mean much. They end up charging you a lot anyways and less qualified mechanics are generally working on your car. The Ford dealer is a good place to get a diagnosis and quote for engine and transmission problems and let the independent shops do your brake, belts and hoses, exhaust, tires, and suspension work. When a car gets titled in your name at the motor vehicle department, it gets a safety check. If that safety check says your car is ok, then Midas is just trying to make money in my opinion rather than only fix what's needed to be fixed. Preventive maintenance like filter and fluid changes are specified in your owner's manual and are the most important thing for you to spend your money on.

http://www.iatn.net/shopfinder/Need Some car help (Brakes, rotor and serpentine belt) Please help?
The rotors are the brake rotors, and your car probably has four, one for each wheel/brake.

As the disc brake pads wear they also slowly wear away the rotors and will need to be replaced.

Serpentine belt is what drives your alternator, AC, power steering and stuff like that. That shouldn't cost you more than $10-$15 or so at an autoparts store. Don't know where you live, so it's hard to say where to get the parts cheapest, but most garages don't like you bringing in your own parts.

Brake Rotor replace, turn, or leave alone?

I am in the process of changing the brakes on my sisters car. I have experience doing this but I was wondering how do you know what to do with the rotors? I personally always change my rotors when changing the pads, but my sister only has enough money for the pads. I would buy them for her but I cannot afford it either.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Brake Rotor replace, turn, or leave alone?
New pads will bed onto used rotors but only fully after a few hundred miles but the combination should be able to pass a rolling road brake efficiency test immediately, they just won't be %26quot;as good as new%26quot;. Done a fair bit of research into this as I had an argument with a mate who said new rotors weren't really necessary whereas I claimed they were.Brake Rotor replace, turn, or leave alone?
feel the rotors with your hands . if you feel grooves in the rotors, they should be replaced if not, they are good.Brake Rotor replace, turn, or leave alone?
I change my rotors when they warp. On the MR2, this is just about every time the pads give up.

On my camry, I change the rotors when they warp, which is about every third time I change the brake pads. Actually on my camry, I just press the brakes harder and it shuts them up.

If the rotors aren't warped, don't bother changing them.

Consider buying a boat. Not only will it give you an excuse to wear a fashionable ascot, but boat have no wheels, ergo, no rotors.Brake Rotor replace, turn, or leave alone?
If the rotors aren't severely rusted or scored up and the brakes didn't vibrate, you should be OK with just replacing the pads.Brake Rotor replace, turn, or leave alone?
You may be wasting money on rotors. unless they are warped, or grooved or worn where the pads hit beyond minimum thickness you can just put on new pads. Also, all rotors are not the same, the cheap chinese ones are only good for selling your car, US versions last a LOT longer and won't warp much.Brake Rotor replace, turn, or leave alone?
If the rotors are smooth and shiny they do not need replacing.

Minor grooving gets worse the deeper it goes.

How do i change the rotors, condenser and coil on my car?

i dont know much about cars, and if someone could possibly tell me how to on my 62 galaxie. i dont live near any mechanics and i can learn by startin with this. i was able to drive this old ford for about 5 days straight before it stubbornly refused to start. i already changed the spark plugs and wires.

i drive this car everyday and im not givin up yet, these problems dont discourage meHow do i change the rotors, condenser and coil on my car?
well you have a points style ignition and it sounds like the points need resetting, i can't go in to it but you should go and pick up an old repair manual for your car it will give you the instructions you need to do this. How do i change the rotors, condenser and coil on my car?
A repair job on anything at all should always begin with checking the very simplest and most obvious things first. The very first thing I would check is the battery. Turn the headlights on for about a minute at night and watch to see if they start fading. If they do, then you have a weak battery that may need a charge or replacement. If they stay bright, go on to the next thing, which would be the ignition.

When you first turn the key, does it make any sound at all. If it makes a repeated clicking noise, that means that the ignition is passing electricity through to the starter alright, but the starter isn't turning over to catch.

So, the problem MAY be with your starter, or with the starter solenoid. Take the starter out and take it to a shop to have it checked. If it's o.k., put it back in.

Then the problem MAY be with the voltage regulator, the coil, or the distributor. All three of those have something to do with regulating electricity. These are fairly cheap-if you can find replacement parts for such an old car.

If you discover that the problem in in the distributor, those parts should be cheap and easy find. You will need to replace everything in the distributor, such as the points, the rotor and the distributor cap itself, If you get new points, be sure to ask for the correct gap setting for them at the store. No more room to write. How do i change the rotors, condenser and coil on my car?
it only has 1 rotor which you just lift up on it and put the other 1 on the same way. as for the condenser your better off to change the points too. the condenser hooks to the points, probably with a little nut and it has a screw to hold it down. as for the coil, you have a long screw, loosen it and take the 2 wires off and the coil will pull straight out but remember the + is the ignition on the coil and the - goes to the distributor. How do i change the rotors, condenser and coil on my car?
Country boy, You need to remove the distributor cap and focus on the points. They open and close by the shaft seen inside. The best thing to do is ask around to see if you can convert the distributor to an electronic one. This NEVER needs points or any adjustments. It depends on the engine size and other factors. You will get better power and MPG's if you do this. The coil can then be updated to a more powerful unit!! WHat engine size is this???

  • How to change front rotors and brake pads on 2000 Dodge Caravan?

Once you get the calipers off, the rotor should pull right off on that one I think. It's possible the caliper mounting bracket might prevent that, in which case that would have to be taken off too. If this is the first time they've ever been off, there may be some thin washer-like things on a couple of the studs that you can just break off and throw away. If you're putting brand new rotors on, use some brake cleaner and clean paper towels to wipe off the anti-rust coating that come on them before you put them on.

    Here's the rest for doing the pads;

Remove brake fluid from the master cylinder brake fluid reservoir until the reservoir is approximately 1 / 2 full. Discard the removed fluid.

Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle. Remove the front wheels.

    Remove or disconnect the following:

Front brake caliper guide pin bolts

Brake caliper by slowly sliding it up and off the adapter and brake rotor. Support the caliper out of the way with a strong piece of wire. Do not let the caliper hang by the brake hose or damage to the brake hose will result.

Compress the caliper piston into the bore using a C-clamp. Insert a suitable piece of wood between the C-clamp and caliper piston to protect the piston.

Outboard disc brake pad from the caliper by prying the brake pad retaining clip over the raised area on the caliper. Slide the brake pad down and off the caliper.

Inboard disc brake pad from the caliper by pulling the brake pad away from the caliper piston until the retaining clip on the pad is free from the caliper piston cavity

    To install:

Be sure the caliper piston has been completely retracted into the piston bore of the caliper assembly. This is required when installing the brake caliper equipped with new brake pads.

If equipped, remove the protective paper from the noise suppression gaskets on the new disc brake pads.

    Install or connect the following:

New inboard disc brake pad into the caliper piston by pressing the pad firmly into the cavity of the caliper piston. Be sure the new inboard brake pad is seated squarely against the face of the brake caliper piston.

Outboard disc brake pad by sliding it onto the caliper assembly

Brake caliper assembly over the brake rotor and onto the steering knuckle adapter

Caliper guide pin bolts and torque to: 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm) on 2002-04 models or 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm) on 2005 models

Apply the brake pedal several times until a firm pedal is obtained.

Check the fluid level in the master cylinder and add fluid as necessary. Road-test the vehicle.

    And here's a picture of the caliper, with names of all the parts;

If you don't know how to do it, let a professional do it. It is your brakes a major safety item. I just don't want to see anyone get hurt because they don't know what they are doing. How to change front rotors and brake pads on 2000 Dodge Caravan?
Brakes are extremely easy to do yourself. It's just barely more than jacking the car up and taking off a few bolts. If you don't disconnect the hose from the caliper you won't even have to bleed the brakes, not that it's that hard either though.

But, asking how to do it online isn't really a great option, it's just a few too many steps to accurately spell out, you certainly don't want to miss any of the steps. Go pick up a haynes manual at any repair shop, it'll be plenty thorough enough to do it yourself. If you've never done it before it'll probably take two hours. Once you've done it once you should be able to do it in 45 minutes.

    hey Dallas

You are going to need to disassemble the hub, just take it a part, but don't mix them up because you are going to have to put it back the same way it comes out. then you will need a to take out the, I believe there is a snap ring, then you will need a special socket it's called a castle socket (it is a really big socket that is smooth on the sides and the bottom have two or three notches that fit on top of the nut) think it has been a while since I change my hub on my 88, Then it should slide right off. Try not to damage the axle threads when siding it off. Oh yea don't forget to take off the break calipers.

    have a nice day....cya....

Can anyone tell me what is wrong withh my car pls?

I have a 1989 v6 2.8 fuel inj that shuts down everytime it reaches normal temp and change gears. It wont start after that until later. Ive changed rotor, pick up coil, dist cap, sparkplugs, wires, fuel pump, fuel filter. People tell me its the camshaftsensor, map sensor, crankshaft position sensor but my car doesnt have any of these. The only i havent bought new is fuel pump relay. Ive ran out of ideas on how to fix the car. Pls pls can anyone tell what is wrong with my car. ThanksCan anyone tell me what is wrong withh my car pls?
A common problem with these is the pickup coil that fires the fuel injectors. Try squirting a small amount of fuel into the intake and see if it starts. Could even be an overheating fuel pump. Can anyone tell me what is wrong withh my car pls?
your vehicle should have an ignition module....these can cause problems when old age and heat takes it's toll .....Can anyone tell me what is wrong withh my car pls?
Its something that is heating up it sounds like. This must be a Chevy 2.8L, I had a 85 S10 with the 2.8 and 5 speed. It was carbed though.

Try this test, after you get it to temp and it shuts off and wont start on you. Pull a spark plug and attach it back to plug wire, lay the spark plug thread onto a piece of metal on vechicle where you can see it. Have someone try to start truck and see if you can eye any spark across it. If no spark, it may be the computer or coil. Something on the ignition circuit.

Also, what do u do when an auto shop quotes u 595.00 dollars for sparknpluggs, battery change and rotor change. overcharge duah they didnt' find the muffler or the hole in the exhaust either??laws? How do u do a basic tune up on your truck?
Whew, you're askin alot aren't you!

Spark plugs http://www.ngk.com that's where to get em (or at least get the specs on the ones you need) I don't know if you have the v-6 or the i-4 the v-6 is a pain in the but to change plugs. But in order to do it, just change one at a time so you don't mix up your wires, you will need a deep 5/8%26quot; spark plug socket and an assortment of extensions if you are doing a v-6. As for plug wires, only change one at a time.

Rotor and Cap, again, change the wires from the old cap to the new one, one at a time, just make sure you put them in the proper holes on the new cap. As for the rotor, you may have to undo a screw to remove it from the shaft, just make sure the new one points the same way your old one did once it's reinstalled.

Changing the battery should be self explanitory, just use a wire brush, or special tool that can be had for a couple of dollars at parts store, for leaning the terminals, and posts. remove old battery, install new.

Changing oil: you may have to remove a skid plate to gain access to the oil filter, and may have to use a big set of pliers to remove the lod filter...

Better yet, you can save yourelf alot of hassle, by just going to an oil change facility, such as jiffy lube.

Trans fluid can be done at a jiffy lube also, in some cases, or any mechanic can do all these things.

Air filter, just open the intake box (a box with a large hose on it going to the throttle body) should be either clipped or screwed closed, just open it up and remove and install then seal the box back up.

Exhaust work, Take it to an Exhaust shop unless you have a torch and welder in your garage, that you know how to use.

Don't forget to replace your fuel filter also.

Sounds also like you may need new catalytic converters, your exhaust shop should be able to tell you if you do.

And when you get an outrageous price, go somewhere else for a different opinion.

Don't forget to have your accessorie drive belts looked at and possible your timing belt. If you don't know when the last time your timing belt was replaced, then you should have it done soon! How do u do a basic tune up on your truck?
Invest in a handbook for your car, they can save you so much money in the long run. All this stuff is easy to do, you could do it in an afternoon. However, i'd say parts alone will run $200+ for everything but the exhaust. Exhaust you can definetly replace yourself. How do u do a basic tune up on your truck?
it sounds more like you need either an EGR valve or that you have a leak in a vacuum hose. vacuum hose fixes are cheap. EGR valves are just a bit more than a tuneup cost.

  • How often do rotors need to be changed?

I just got my front break pads and rotors changed Feb 23, 2009. How long before I need to change them again? How often do rotors need to be changed?
You do not have to have the rotors turned every time you install pads. Have them turned only if you go to far and the pads get metal on metal and cut into the rotors, or if you are braking and get a bad shaking in the steering wheel meaning your rotors are out of round and need turning. Other wise you can go a long time if you catch the pads in time and replace them listen for the sensors to start squealing and replace immediately. I am driving a 91 GMC 1500 series pick-up and have never had to change the rotors have resurfaced them once. It is stamped on the rotor what they can be resurfaced to and still be safe. So really a lot depends on you.How often do rotors need to be changed?
Typically, 36,000-40,000 miles. This depends on your driving habits, the environment you drive in, and the quality of the parts. Highway driving, of course, causes less brake wear. Do not go by mileage, or time alone. The only way to truly tell if pads or rotors need replacing is an inspection, or physically measuring the thickness of the items. If your brakes start making noise, or the car pulsates when you hit the pedal, take it in and have it checked out. A brake inspection is much cheaper than a full pad and rotor replacement. Another note depending on the amount of run-out or deviation in the face of the rotor, you can usually turn (true) rotors several times, just something to keep in mind for your next brake service.

Hope this helps. How often do rotors need to be changed?
Depend on how much you drive and what type of driving you do. Stop and go in the city will wear the brakes out faster than on the highway. Ideally you should get a couple of years out of a set of pads and it depends on the rotors you have but they should be able to be turned and last for 3 brake pad changes. How often do rotors need to be changed?
It depends on how you drive - mine go over 100K miles on the pads, rotors basically forever. Other people I know go through pads more than once per year, and rotors every other year. How often do rotors need to be changed?
You did not state the year of your vehicle so it is impossible to give you a meaningful answer.

How do you change the rotors on a 94 honda accord.?

I am looking to replace the brakes and the rotors on my 94 honda accord and need any help I can get.How do you change the rotors on a 94 honda accord.?
Honda rotors are bolted onto the hub, from the inside. You have to pull the cv shaft out of the hub end. The wheel bearing is a press fit. So you have to use a slide hammer to remove the hub from inside the bearing. Then you can unbolt the rotor and replace it. Then reinstall everything. I would suggest you take it to a shop and have it done.

I am trying to change the brake rotors on my1992 bmw 325i, how do I stop the rotor from rotating when i want..

to remove thee nut/srew that holds the rotor. I took everything off and all that is left is that nut/screw but the rotor keeps rotating and that makes it impossible to take it off. Will putting the front of the car on jack stands help as I am changing the front rotors and am working on one side at a time?I am trying to change the brake rotors on my1992 bmw 325i, how do I stop the rotor from rotating when i want..
I dont think jack stands will lock the rotors in place while you try to loosen the rotor's mounting cap screws. Best way is to use an Impact wrench. If you don't have access to an impact wrench, try using a long screwdriver inserted in one of the vent holes in the rim of the rotor. The rotor will rotate until the protruding screwdriver wedges itself against the floor. First, however, be sure you have new cap screws to use when you re-assemble. 2nd. Do not tighten the cap screws more than 1/8 turn once the rotor is properly seated. Use anti-sieze paste on the threads of the cap screws. I do not recommend using a vice clamp on the surface of the soft iron rotors. The rotors can be easily warped, knicked or damaged.I am trying to change the brake rotors on my1992 bmw 325i, how do I stop the rotor from rotating when i want..
Maybe you should have loosened them with the calipers on. Someone could hold the brake pedal. Maybe try putting a vice, c-clamp or vice grips on the disc. It's possible that one side has left-hand threads too.I am trying to change the brake rotors on my1992 bmw 325i, how do I stop the rotor from rotating when i want..
If you are talking about that single hardened phillips black screw, make sure you get a couple of new ones. I use an impact-hammer wrench to get them off (the kind that actually uses a hammer - not air powered - less chance that it will slip out). They are different metal than the rotor so sometimes they seize up. The head is about the size of a dime, but the screw itself is only about 1/4%26quot; diameter.I am trying to change the brake rotors on my1992 bmw 325i, how do I stop the rotor from rotating when i want..
put the caliper and pads back on and use a vice-clamp to hold the rotor still.

and you will need an impact hammer to remove the bolts on the rotor.I am trying to change the brake rotors on my1992 bmw 325i, how do I stop the rotor from rotating when i want..
    From the BMW service manual:

%26quot;REMOVING, RECONDITIONING AND INSTALLING BRAKE ROTORS

To remove the brake rotors, first remove the caliper and brake pads as described below...Unsing a hex wrench, remove the mounting screw from between two of the wheel bolt holes and pull the rotor off the hub...Use a soft faced mallet to free stuck rotor.

    CAUTION --

    Do not try to remove the rotor without first removing caliper assembly. EXCESSIVE FORCE MAY DAMAGE THE ROTOR OR THE WHEEL BEARING HOUSING.%26quot;

Some knucklehead using an impact wrench and not their brain is why none of my BMWs go to a mechanic. If the rotor is to be discarded, you can use water pump pliers to hold the rotor and use a solvent to loosen the nut. If you do this, make sure to clean the wheel bearing housing immediately afterwards to ensure you don't have to greese and repack.

The front of the car should be up on jack stands and level.

You should have the BMW Service manual in hand or at the very least the Bently book. Either is enourmously helpful - especially in situations like this.I am trying to change the brake rotors on my1992 bmw 325i, how do I stop the rotor from rotating when i want..
Everyones answers will work - but since your that far along try placing two lug bolts in their holes and use a pry bar between them or something similar to hold the rotor in position.

or just use a impact wrench.

I guess it would cost about 90 labor (1 hr)- depending on your area and maybe 80-160 in parts.

Replacing rotors on a 2001 Dodge Neon?

For a couple of months, I was hearing a clicking noise in my front tire, as well as a thumping noise when I braked (could also be felt in the brake pedal, but stops the harder I push) Then one day I pulled into a parking lot, going over the curb, heard a loud thunk and pulled into a parking spot, where my car was stuck. I got out to look, and saw that my front pass. side tire was turned in. Took the car to the mechanic, and had to have both tie rod ends replaced. Since then, the thumping has gotten worse. My Dad believes that is sounds like a warped rotor. He had to replace his rotors on his old car (mid 80's Ford Tempo), and is willing to replace mine. My question is, does anybody know how hard it is to change rotors on a Dodge Neon? Is it anything like changing a rotor on an old Ford Tempo? He said it was really easy on that car, so we are hoping it is easy on my car as well.

  • How to control the fluctuation of energy in wind turbine?

Due to the change in the wind speed, the speed of the wind turbine rotor changes, so at the output we get variable AC supply which means we do not get exactly constant voltage and frequency.

It can be control by controlling shaft speed and at the output by varying the load (Resistance).

I need to submit a case study about that so tell me about any site or e-book where I can find comprehensive details about that. How to control the fluctuation of energy in wind turbine?
    Basically there are two methods.

For small turbines (a few kilowatts) the turbine runs at whatever speed it likes, depending on the wind speed. There is a separate electrical converter to change the generated power into AC at mains frequency and synchronize it with the mains.

There may be a simple device to limit the max turbine speed just to prevent mechanical damage - for example a mechanical brake or lock, or spring-loaded turbine blades that spill the wind when the wind speed is high.

Large turbines (producing of the order of 1 MW or more per turbine) run at constant speed, generate power at mains frequency, and are directly coupled into the electricity grid when they are working. The speed is controlled the same way as for conventional power station generators. Without getting lost in the practical details, if the turbine tries to run at the wrong speed it is fighting against the whole of the rest of the power that is being generated in the electricity grid, so it loses the fight. As the wind speed changes, the amount of power generated changes. If the wind speed is too low, the generator acts in reverse as a motor to drive the turbine. (Of course in practice the turbine would be stopped completely, instead of doing that for a long period of time).

The rotational speed for large wind turbines is usually slow (10 or 20 rev/minute) with a gearbox to spin the generator at a higher speed. The blades are variable pitch so they can work efficiently at different average wind speeds. How to control the fluctuation of energy in wind turbine?
Well I know on the small scale a diode capacitor set up will even out and regulate the frequency. Perhaps that might be a place for you to start? Hope I helped. And have you tried google scholar?

You'll need special brake tools, some big auto parts stores have free loaners.

You'll also need to turn the rotors and drums so there is no low or high spots. Some auto parts stores do this for free for buying the pads and shoes.

You'll need a micrometer to measure that there is enough metal on the rotors and brake drums. Again most auto parts stores can do this for free.

As for doing the brake job, I recommend buying the correct Chilton's manual for your car. It will give you step by step instructions and pictures. It will also give the correct minimum manufacturer specs to make sure the brakes will work correctly.I have a 1994 honda accord lx and im am wanting to change the rotors and i was wondering how?

brakes are one of the most integral parts of a vehicle. i do not recomend you doing a brake job by your self if you do not know what to do allready. too many things can go wrong. if you damage a caliper you would have no idea of it and not be able to stop. so i would have someone that knows how to do it show you what and what not to do. and once you take the calipers off and change rotors, you have to reset the caliper and if you do that wrong you can destroy it and have no sign of it until your brakes fail and you try and panic stop and crash. get some help. or even better get a manual. they are made for the do it yourselfer, theyll tell you what to do and how to do it, rather then why you do it and other methods and the mechanics and all that like i learn from my 800$ automotive textbooks. a chilton manual is about 20$.How hard would it be to change the rotors by myself on a 2002 acura rsx?

GM uses higher quality steel in their rotors than ANY aftermarket China made steel.

It's simple to replace rotors and pads.

    1) A good jack.

    2) A block of wood. (to hold the truck tires off the ground) Don't trust the jack by it's self!!

    3) 1 Big C clamp. (to compress the calipers)

    4) Lug wrench. How hard is it to change brake rotors %26amp; pads on a 01 Silverado 4WD?
Absolutely not. If I'm not mistaken, those are hubless rotors that come right off after the calipers are removed. You may need to have the rotors turned (machined) if they have been rubbing metal to metal on the pads. Local parts houses usually do that for $5-10 each. How hard is it to change brake rotors %26amp; pads on a 01 Silverado 4WD?
I don't know if you would gain a whole heck of a lot by going totally aftermarket with the rotors - your best bet is get a set of good replacements from the auto parts store, and look for higher performance pads. The replacements are very simple on your truck - pull off the caliper, and the rotors should come right off.

If you're dead set on aftermarket, I can personally recommend the SSBC rotors - I recommend the slotted, but not cross-drilled, since you're stopping a whole lot of weight when you brake, the cross-drills will tend to crack at the holes from the heat.

How hard is it to change the struts on a 90' Firebird, what has to be done?

Ive changed brakes, rotors, and that kind of thing, so was wondering how hard it would be to change the struts my self. How hard is it to change the struts on a 90%26039; Firebird, what has to be done?
You don't need a spring compressor to change the struts.. Your not removing spring.

Place a floor jack under the lower A arm, jack up, place stand under it.

Take wheel off, take caliper off (don't loosen the brake hose though) sit or hang caliper so its not pulling on brake line.

Open hood up, on each side of car is a strut tower with a black strut bearing mount with a cone looking thing on top.. Pop that cone shaped cover off.. Remove the large nut you see in there.

Now back to the wheel side. You have 2 large bolts holding strut to spindle.. Also the brake line is help to strut with a clip.. Remove that clip, then take the 2 strut to spindle bolts off.

Lift up on the strut to compress it and move it off the mount, now left it go down and just pull it out.

On new strut put top rod through 1st, hand start the top nut, then pull strut down and put 2 lower bolts on..

The lower bolts needs to be torqued to 125 ft lbs then turned 120 degrees more

Top nut is then torqued to 44 ft lbs

Put caliper and well back on.How hard is it to change the struts on a 90%26039; Firebird, what has to be done?
not to hard you will need some spring compressors, or you wont be abel to do it. just take all the bolts off to the strut, use 1 or 2 spring compressors for each side and compress the spring.

should be simple just be carful they can be dangerous and deadly if the compressor slips off.

The rotor does not just slide right off. It is held on by two screws just like you said.

You have to go to sears or an automotive store and get an impact screw driver.

It is a big thick screw driver / hammer thing that has different size attachments that come with it. Put the right attachment in it, place the tool in the screw, just like your going to unscrew it, and hit the impact screw driver with a hammer while holding it firmly. (that's how it works) When you hit the tool, the force of the impact presses the tool firmly into the screw and rotates left or right, whatever you have it set to do.

Be sure to spray it with lubricating fluid before. And be sure you have it set to turn left.

Works like a charm. How do you change rear rotors on a 1993 Honda accord?

all you need above but essentially it is.....

caliper bracket comes off with two bolts usually and is not a big chore, if you have the caliper already off, this will be easier than that. Just remove the bolts bolts, and it slides off. The rotor should then just slide right off. Hope that helps, best luck

  • How Do I change Brake rotors on Cavalier?

I have a 01 Cavalier with 155,000 miles and it vibrates when I step on brakes that I just replaced. Most folks sey its the rotors. Is it an easy job? Its a 2.2 L engine. Most shops want hundreds of dollars to do this job. Advance Auto Parts has them for 32.00. So please tell me it can be done without major tools and other complications. Thanks, MikesHow Do I change Brake rotors on Cavalier?
You gotta take off the tire, brake caliper and the caliper bracket(2 screws in the back) . The Rotor should slide off because the caliper bracket and caliper hold the rotor in place. It might also be held on by some screws. The screws are easy to strip so I recommend using an impact gun. I think cavaliers don't have the screws on the rotors. How Do I change Brake rotors on Cavalier?
What they said, and buy some brake cleaning spray to clean the protective oil off the new rotors, or the pads will glaze and won't work. You can use your pads you just put on too, no problem. How Do I change Brake rotors on Cavalier?
This is a very easy task ! Go to advance and buy a HAYNES AUTO MANULE, it has step by step procedures. Take your time,be sure car is on jack stands and not a stock car jack ! Hope this helps ,, good luck !!

How often are you supposed to change your brakes?

I have a 2000 BMW 323i. Anyone know on average how often I am supposed to change the brakes? (BMWs have to change the rotors as well as the pads everytime....so its really expensive.)How often are you supposed to change your brakes?
BMW's have to change the rotors so often because they are %26quot;Soft%26quot; and the pads eat through them.

Your e46 BMW is equipped with pad sensors that will tell you when you are getting close to needing your next brake job done.

Just to inform yourself more about your 3 series you will find that http://www.e46fanatics.com is a great resource for your auto.

It is a good idea to check them once a month with a quick visual check.

Typically with alot of high way driving you can go alot longer without replacing your pads. If you do alot of city driving you will find that you must replace them more often.

Regardless it ultimately is left up to whether you do a lot of heavy braking or downhill driving. How often are you supposed to change your brakes?
It all depends on the driving habits and the vehicle. There is no set period of time or mileage to overhaul brakes. Most vehicle have a little device that tells you via a warning light or a little metal tab that ride against the rotor when you apply the brakes and make a screeching sound until you let off the peddle. I have heard that about BMW's, yes very expensive. You might try an independent mechanic and see what he can do for you.How often are you supposed to change your brakes?
roughly every 40-50,000 miles. you should replace your pads, and rotors only need to be replaces if damaged or warped. they should last a very long time.

There is no reason for you to replace your pads and rotors every time you get brakes serviced unless you race your car or possibly drive with one foot always on the brakes. How often are you supposed to change your brakes?
replace them when there about wore out, you need to have then checked at about 30,000 miles and then the mechanic will be able to tell you about how much longer you have before they need changed. How often are you supposed to change your brakes?

I have a 89 silerado 350 efi and it back fires like when u give it gas timing how do i set the timing?

we changed rotor cap plugs cap wires but still back fires is there a special way to time it? something i have to uhook or something because we moved the distibuter and it did nothingI have a 89 silerado 350 efi and it back fires like when u give it gas timing how do i set the timing?
Sound like you crossed wires.Check Firing order again.

1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 rotor turning clockwise.I have a 89 silerado 350 efi and it back fires like when u give it gas timing how do i set the timing?
Was it Backfiring before you worked on it? If so, it sounds like it's jumped Timing.Does it still have the original Factory Nylon Sprocket on the Camshaft ? If so, one or more of the %26quot;Teeth%26quot; may have stripped off.One way to determine this is to remove the Valve Cover on the Driver's side of the Engine, remove the Spark Plug to the 1 Cylinder, which is in the front of the Engine on the Driver's side, and bump the Engine over, without starting it. Put your Thumb over the Spark Plug Hole, and you'll feel the Compression build up when the Piston comes to the Top. With the Piston at the very Top, and the Distributor Rotor Button pointing at the 1 Spark Plug Wire,[You'll have to remove the Distributor Cap to see that], and both Rocker Arms for 1 in the closed Position, look at the Timing Mark on the Harmonic Balancer on the bottom pulley of the Engine. It should be pointing somewhere close to the Timing Mark where you see the Timing Adjustment Settings. If it's not, and it's way off, then chances are that it's jumped Timing, and you're going to need a full Timing Kit, which consists of a Timing Chain, Camshaft Sprocket, Crankshaft Sprocket, and a Timing Cover Gasket. Everything on the front of the Engine has to come off to replace the Timing Set, so you want to make sure that's what it is before proceeding. I've done it, and I can tell you, it's a lot of work ! Make sure you have a Haynes Manual, and read it thoroughly before you start. That'll cost about $15, and will tell you exactly how to set the Timing, and replace the Timing Set. If you do it yourself, it'll cost about $50, maybe less, and it'll take several Hours, maybe a couple of evenings, if you're doing it by the Shadetree. If you pay a Repair Shop, it's going to cost around $250 to $350 easy, but make sure you know what you're doing before you attempt it.Try polkan47's Answer first.I hope he's right, cause it'll save you a lot of Hasle ! i agree with polkan47.their is a olds rocket 350 with a different fireing order but in your case it is 18436572 in clockwise rotation.I have a 89 silerado 350 efi and it back fires like when u give it gas timing how do i set the timing?
Yes, you have to dis-connect the brown wire behind the plastic cover on the firewall underneath the hood. Before timing it to ZERO timing provided the ECM computer is still hooked-up. Once you have the timing set on ZERO, re-connect the brown wire and you should be good to go.

Below is a search I did over @ fullsizechevy.com on setting the timing. See if, this can help you w/ your issue.

Good luck!I have a 89 silerado 350 efi and it back fires like when u give it gas timing how do i set the timing?
I own a shop, and since yours is this old, you probably have a worn out camshaft. The symptoms are: It runs fine until you give it gas %26amp; get it under a pull, and then it backfires through the intake (most common) or the exhaust. Remember; timing doesn't get off by itself, and one that jumps on the gears will ( 99% of the time) not run at all, and/or will backfire all the time, not just when you give it gas. The best way to diagnose this problem is to use a vacuum gage attached to manifold vacuum source. You are on the right track by thinking its in the ignition timing, and it could be if you changed the plug wires, and then the problem showed up. Other suggestions on how to set the timing is correct, but you will more than likely find the timing is dead on. The most common causes are: EGR system not functioning properly, Vacuum leak, Damaged valve springs or sticking valves, and the Intake gasket leaking. To properly diagnose the problem, I would suggest running a vacuum test, a compression test, and a leak down test. It will more than likely show up on the vacuum test, and you will need a chart to interpute the needle readings. Since you have replaced the plugs %26amp; wires, and cap %26amp; rotor, then if the engine has a lot of miles on it, then you more than likely have a worn camshaft.

One final thing that is not so common on these vehicles is; The distributor may be worn out. Remove the cap, grab hold of the rotor, and see if you can move it from side to side. There should be no, or very tiny amount of movement. When the bushing (in the top of the distributor) gets worn, the shaft will flop around, which opens %26amp; closes the air gap between the reluctor %26amp; magnetic pick-up. This will cause the ignition timing to be all over the place, and when you give it gas it will move to one side from the torque on it from the camshaft %26amp; oil pump. This will also (sometimes) wear the gear on the distributor that runs on the camshaft. If this happens, then its just like a rearend that has too much backlash in it, and it prematurely wears out the gear due to improper mesh between the two. The camshaft gear is much harder than the distributor gear, thus it doesn't wear it. This can be a serious problem as it will cause metal from the gear to be introduced into the oiling system. Any metal in the oil will wreak havoc on the bearings, cam %26amp; lifters, and rings. It can also severely damage the oil pump. I would pull the distributor out, and replace it with another one. If you use one that has been used before, then you must replace the distributor gear with a new one, or it will wear out pretty fast. This sometimes is the case with an engine that has a roller cam, and the cam is walking inside the block too much due to the thrust button/bearing wear. This will also cause the cam to walk enough for the timing chain to hit the block, and in some cases wear a hole in the block behind the chain %26amp; gear.

Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!I have a 89 silerado 350 efi and it back fires like when u give it gas timing how do i set the timing?
First thing to check is that you don't have your wires crossed either on the spark plugs or the cap. This can happen quite easily and engine will do exactly what you describe. Check these carefully before getting too carried away
