1996 Honda civic cx distributor?

2 years ago i changed the distributor cap on my car (honda civic cx 1996) i wasent able to change the rotor (couldent remove the screw). Two days ago i had to change it again . When i removed the cap, i removed the first screw no problem, the second one broke off half way out (i dident use any force at all) the third one broke clean off just as i started removing it, i dident touch the rotor this time. I put the new cap on with only one screw holding it so i could get it to the garage. The mecanic was pretty busy and reluctenly took my car in. After looking at it he says he cant touch it, he says he will problably break the distributor housing if he trys to remove the broken screws or the rotor. He told me to use a couple of tie wraps to hold it in place (ya right). Fist Question is: does this sound right. Second question. How much will it cost me to change the whole distriburator.1996 Honda civic cx distributor?

Emissions Warranty Extension

(Supersedes 98-081, dated March 9, 1999)

Updated information is shown by asterisks and black bars.

BACKGROUND

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) have claimed that the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system in the affected vehicles does not fully perform in the manner that they believe is required. Specifically, they believe the OBD system is not sensitive enough to detect some engine misfire conditions.

In an effort to resolve this issue, American Honda has agreed to extend the emissions warranty on all of the affected vehicles and to provide emissions-related services during the warranty period.

WARRANTY EXTENSION INFORMATION

American Honda is extending the emissions warranty on all affected vehicles to 14 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. The basic terms of this extended warranty are the same as given with the original Federal and California emissions warranties.

Federal Emissions Warranties - The time and mileage periods for the Emissions-related Design and Defects Warranty and the Emissions Performance Warranty are lengthened from 4 years or 50,000 miles to 14 years or 150,000 miles. All other terms, conditions, and exclusions still apply. All parts on the Emissions Parts List are now covered for 14 years or 150,000 miles, so the 5/50 notations on certain parts no longer apply.

California Emissions Warranties - The time and mileage periods for the Emissions Control Systems Defects Warranty and the Emissions Performance Warranty are lengthened from 4 years or 50,000 miles to 14 years or 150,000 miles. All other terms, conditions, and exclusions still apply. All parts on the Emissions Parts List are now covered for 14 years or 150,000 miles, so the 7/70 notations on certain parts no longer apply.

File a claim under this extension if:

^ The MIL comes on and the cause is traced to an emissions-related component.

^ The vehicle requires an emissions-related repair because it failed a mandated emissions test.

^ Any emissions-related component fails.

* If you cannot find the labor operation number for a particular emissions-related repair in the chart in this service bulletin, contact your local District Parts and Service Manager (DPSM) or call Warranty Dealer Support at 310-783-3240.*

REPAIR TIME REQUIREMENTS

According to the terms of the agreement, American Honda and the dealer have 45 days to resolve the customer's claim for repair under this warranty from the date the customer first brings in the vehicle. If you decide to refuse a customer's claim for repair under this warranty because you suspect accidental damage, tampering, or lack of proper maintenance, notify your DPSM immediately. This will allow American Honda to thoroughly investigate the customer's claim within the 45-day timeline.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES

In addition to the warranty extension, the following services are provided to owner's of affected vehicles.

Between 50,000 miles and 75,000 miles - If an affected vehicle comes in for service within this mileage range, inspect the OBD system. Follow the service manual procedure to retrieve any DTCs that are set. Then, replace the affected part(s). This inspection and any parts replacement are free of charge to the owner.

Between 75,000 and 150,000 miles - At this time the dealer should:

^ Inspect the OBD system again, and replace any parts that have caused a DTC to set.

^ Replace the distributor cap, rotor, ignition wires, and spark plugs.

^ Change the oil and oil filter.

All of the above services are free of charge to the owner. You must use Honda parts and fluids for this service.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION

American Honda will send a letter to all owners of affected vehicles notifying them of the terms of the warranty extension. This will be done immediately.

American Honda will send letters to all owners of affected vehicles, reminding them of the 50-75,000 mile OBD check, 5 years after the release of their models. This will begin in the latter part of 1999 for the 1995 models, etc.

American Honda will send letters to all owners of affected vehicles, reminding them of the 75-150,000 mile service, 9 years after the release of their models. This will begin in 2005.

i don't think you need to change distributor just need to take it out than try to take the broken screw out be a lot easier. mechanic they should be able to do that for you at last he want to charge you your arm and leg. here what you should do:

1) take your cap out mark your rotor tip direction and mark your distributor housing so you can put it back in the same spot as you take out.

2) mark adjustment bolt location and take the bolts that distrubutor inplace out.

3) pull distrubutor out straight forward so the gear won't move.

when you install just reverse how you take out, make sure all the mark are line up good otherwise it won't start, if somehow your car won't start may you have to reinstall distrubutor again.

to do that:

1) rotate you piston untill it get to top dead center, i don't know how much you know about the system work the best bit is go get you a repair manual and follow instruction that should halp you get your car running.

  • How do I change the brake rotors to my 1993 Ford Bronco?

    a. Loosen lug nuts on wheel.

    1. Jack up car

    2. Remove Wheel.

    3. Remove Brake Caliper and hang with a wire/coat hanger.

    4. Rotor should slide off. May be stuck to hub via rust. Clean around with brake cleaner. Hit the rotor a few times with a rubber mallet. (DO NOT USE A HAMMER!)

Does anyone know any honest, reliable, inexpensive auto repair shops in the North Dallas area?

I have a Honda Accord and it just reached the 60,000 mile mark. I want to do a tune up that includes the works (i.e. changing plugs, rotor %26amp; cap, oil, fuel and air filter, also wheel alignment and inspection, etc..) does anyone know a good auto mechanic that can do this in the North Dallas area? Also, how much you think it would cost? Thanks.Does anyone know any honest, reliable, inexpensive auto repair shops in the North Dallas area?
I lived in the Dallas area for many years. For the most part the only mechanics were $78.00 per hour up. The best alignment shop was in Duncanville. I think it was Precision Alignment or Superior Alignment something like that. It was off Camp Wisdom and Main. The best general mechanics shop was a place recommended to me by American Armature. It may have been McGuire. It's near Haskell and I-30. They aren't cheap but as honest as the day is long and they know what they are doing. I ALMOST FORGOT CHRISTIAN BROTHERS only used them a few times but when they give you an estimate you can count on it coming in at or under the estimate. They were to put in a wheel bearing and because of rust an stuff wound up doing a whole lot more and it didn't cost me a dime over the initial estimate. It is the one on Eldorado in Mckinney that I went to but I was referred by a friend who used a different member of the company I would take my daughters car there if it needed work. Your Honda dealer SHOULD be a reliable source but you never know at least if they find anything wrong a warranted item they should fix it. Hope this helps.Does anyone know any honest, reliable, inexpensive auto repair shops in the North Dallas area?
    do it yourself. its easy.

    prop up car

    unplug oil plug

    let drain

unscrew oil filter, either buy a tool, or jab a screwdriver through it

dab oil on filter ring with finger

    screw in filter somewat tightly.

    put in oil pan plug

put a gallon of Valvoline oil. 10 40 oil. thinkcer oil is better. lubricates better. the hundreds of degries of engine heat will liquify it. use nothing but Valvoline nothing.

unplug one, only one plug and wire.

match up the length, screw in the plug by hand, be carfull dont tighten with wrench till its all the way in.

    air filter is easy.

Need some help with 1996 Dodge Dakota ?

I need to know how to change the rotor on a 1996 Dodge Dakota. And yes to everyone who is going to answer %26quot;Go buy the book%26quot; yes I tried and I cant find it anywhere. Its a Dodge Dakota, 5 speed stick, 4wd. I just need to know how to take off the rotor.Need some help with 1996 Dodge Dakota ?
same way you would take all rotors off if it's a 4x4. if it's auto hubs pull the hub off there is a nut on the end of your front shaft it may require a special tool if not it will require a very large socket.

key thing, do it safe, jack stands.. note the place ment of all parts. usually there is a key on the spindle shaft. that need's pryed out if you have one it's best to be pulled out with a strong little magnet , after the nut there is a nylon disc, a greased set of berrings, then you can pull the rotor off. on the back side of the rotor there is a hub seal aka oil seal, and another set of berrings

you should not need to replact the race for the berrings but you should inspect the berring and repack new grease or replace them depending on general condition. a qiuck soak in kerosene will clean out the old grease. the rear oil seal needs replaced every time you take this apart so do it all right while it's apart.

if you have ne questions while it's apart snap a pic and send it to me i'll be willing to help u out more.Need some help with 1996 Dodge Dakota ?
You don't need to remove the hub to change the brake rotors. In fact, don't even touch the hub.

Remove the wheel, remove the caliper, and the brake rotor should come off. You may have to whack it with a good sized hammer to knock it loose.

Need some help with 1996 Dodge Dakota ?
Some have a slip off rotor that will come off once the wheel and caliper are removed. Others have a 4 bolt flange that allows the bering/hub and rotor to come off as an assembly. Look behind the rotor/hub at the drive axel connection for the bolts. You may have to clear out some road grime to see them.

Timing belt change-how to find in 1990 bmw?

    Hello all,

I have a 1990 BMW 525 which i bought from a second hand car dealer and he told that he had changed the timing belt. This year I am going to do a service on my car..like changing the distributor rotor, sparkplug change, oil change etc.My dealer told that he had changed the timing belt, but how do i confirm that that he had changed.Any way to find out that....

thanks in advance,Timing belt change-how to find in 1990 bmw?
The only way to tell is to look out for telltale signs of recent activity in the timing belt area (cleaner bolts and screws compared to the others in the engine...etc). Another way is to visiually inspect the belt itself for cracks, but if you could get to that stage, you might as well just replace the belt anyway since there's already a lot of labor involved.

Haynes repair manuals recommend 40,000 miles while Bentley repair manuals recommend 60,000 miles.

Instructions on how to change out the timing belt...

    http://www.bmwe30.net/cgi-bin/datacgi/da

    http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Maintenanc

Either way, you should never delay changing it out because you have an interference motor, which could cause bent valves, cams and rocker arms when the belt becomes loose or if it snaps.Timing belt change-how to find in 1990 bmw?
Any dealer will do a free inspection, if your dealer has already said he has swapped it out, you can take his word for it or not,

Keep in mind for your car BMW recommends the belt swapped out at 60,000-70,000 so if you have 85,999 miles on your car you can be assured that you have another 30,000 miles left to go.

As evidence, your belt would have broken already from being dry-rotted or your belt would have some serious cracks in it.Timing belt change-how to find in 1990 bmw?
As with all belts, you can check them visually or you can take it to an Auto parts store that offers free inspections of your belts for a better opinionTiming belt change-how to find in 1990 bmw?
While timing belts have a recommended life other things can lead to failure. Over heat, oil leaks, coolant leaks can shorten the life. To check the belt you need to look at it. Does it show wear? Cracks or discoloration? Did the dealer tell at what millage the belt was changed, and did they replace the cam and crank seals %26amp; water pump?Timing belt change-how to find in 1990 bmw?
Cannot. Even tearing out the timing belt cover (which takes about 2 - 3 hours of labor) and belt is visible, there is no way to tell unless your belt is ready to snap. However, if the BMW dealer said the car was serviced, you can trust because all BMW dealer work is required to be logged into a database.

I want to get bigger rims and with the stock rotors the braking system will look anemic my question is Can i just change the rotors and add bigger ones and leave everything else in the braking system stock ?also what size would I have to look for? i know the bolt patteren is 4.5 x 5, when I change it would I also be able to use stock pads ? how hard is it to install?79 chrysler cordoba disc brake replacement?
If larger diameter rotors are installed, the calipers and caliper supports will also have to be replaced.79 chrysler cordoba disc brake replacement?
To perfom the up-grades that you want to do, and not having any idea what to do, I think you should take the car to a performance shop.79 chrysler cordoba disc brake replacement?
You will need to buy a complete setup.

Because you are buying the for cosmetic reasons, anything with stock braking power or better will do.

Wilwood has some complete setups that look good with open mag wheels -%26gt; http://www.wilwood.com/Centers/Informati

Brembo makes pretty one's, but they dont make them for vehicles this old.

Stainless Steel Brake company also makes some, but they arent as flashy. You can find them on summitt's website here -%26gt; http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch.79 chrysler cordoba disc brake replacement?
Chryslers had plenty of brakes from the factory... to stop them

(unlike the early Mustangs and Cougars)

I strictly the looks of the car is the concern may I suggest you get some brake to wheel backing plate shields... (like the ones sold thru J C Whitney)

they keep brake dust off your rims and hide the caloper and rotors etc from view...'

you can save money and put it else where like special vented rotors and upgraded pad %26amp; shoe linings, braided steel brake lines and etc.

this will not only save you a lot of money but headaches as well
